Education : Technology and science overview, part 1

Online degree on Technology is a general term for the processes by which human beings fashions tools and machines to increase their control and understanding of the material environment. The term is derived from a Greek words "TEKHINE" which refers to an art of craft, and LOGIA, meaning an area of study.

Thus the word technology literary means the study or science of crafting. in other words, technology is the process by which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants.

It is interesting to know that most people think of technology only in terms of its tangible products, computers, and software, aircraft, pesticides .etc.

There are other factors such as engineering know how, manufacturing expertise, various technical skills etc.

Technology also includes the infrastructure  necessary for the design process, that means those conditions.

Technology is a product of engineering and science, albeit, both science and technology simply imply a thinking process, seen are concerned with casual relationship in the material world, and both employ an experimental methodology that results in empirical demonstrations that can be verified by repetition.

Science has two parts, a body of knowledge. Engineering also consist of a body of knowledge and a process for solving problems.

Again, science at least in theory, is less concerned with the practicality of its results  and more concerned wit the development of general laws, but in practise, science and technology are inextricably involved with each other.

A scientific understanding of the natural world is the basis for much of technological development today, for instance, the design of computer chips, depends on a detailed understanding of the electrical properties of silicon and other materials.

Similarly the design of a drug to fight a specific disease is made possible by knowledge of how protein and other biological molecules are structured and interact.

In a related manner, the development of new types of materials and genetic engineering of crops to resist insects are usually attributed  wholly to science.
